The winners will have their portfolios published in the September's #24/Talent issue of Foam Magazine, accompanied with an interview.
The last days towards the closing date were crazy, many extra hours were spent to cope with the many submissions we received. In total we received over 950 complete submissions from 50 different countries - soon we will find out if the quality is as impressive as the quantity.
We will keep you up to date in the process.
Art Brussels
Thursday, 29 April 2010
Art Brussels was a success for Foam Magazine! Isabel and Marlijn got back from Belgium where they represented Foam Magazine at Art Brussels '28th contemporary art fair', together with a selection of international art magazines and about 200 galleries. There was an impressive balance between the new, young, cutting edge performances and the established galleries represented. The current issue #22/Peeping was very popular and also a few of the back issues we brought sold like warm rolls, as the Dutch would say it... #11/Young, #13/Searching and #17/Portrait were the first to be sold out.
Our two favourites in the Media Lane were the Italian magazine Mousse and Polka Magazine from France. Other favourites were the Belgium waffles, 'Vlaamse Frites' and cheese croquettes.
OK Festival
Wednesday, 21 April 2010
The first OK Festival paid attention to a selection of many fantastic independent magazines. The 3-day festival has been a success last weekend, and visitors from around the world came to Arnhem to attend the workshops, presentations, discussions and to enjoy the sunny weather in front of Villa Sonsbeek.
Jaap Scheeren in Shanghai
Wednesday, 21 April 2010
Photographer Jaap Scheeren is in Shanghai for the next issue from Foam Magazine. His first impression: "I have already seen so many things here. People fighting with trees, people who torture themselves, seahorses of vodka. Stepped into a haunted house and we bought very cool bikes from the local brand Yongjiu, which is why everybody takes pictures of us and finds us very cool!" That promises to be an interesting photo series.

In American Power, Mitch Epstein investigates notions of power, both electrical and political. His focus is on energy, how it gets made, how it gets used, and the ramifications of both. The resulting photographs contain Epstein’s signature mix of complex wit, surprising detail, and formal rigor. These pictures illuminate the intersection between American society and American landscape.

PHOTO COMPETITION: Imagine a new world
Wednesday, 01 July 2009
Now that the talent call is closed, why not seize the chance to participate to the “Imagine a new world” photo competition? The competition has just been launched by the European Commission in the context of the European Year of Creativity and Innovation 2009, which aims to raise awareness of how creativity and innovation contribute to our personal, social, and economic development.
Imagination is a vital faculty for the human being. Imagination helps provide meaning to experience and understanding to knowledge; it's thanks to imagination that we can make sense of the world. Dig deep in your imagination and provide an original work where you express your vision of a "new world", your vision of the future.
The competition is open to anyone who is a resident of an EU Member State, a candidate country, or of Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway, and of course anyone who shares our passion for photography. A prestigious jury of high-level professionals, from the fields of photography and the arts, will select the winners who will receive a camera or photographic equipment worth up to 5000 € and a trip to a European city.
Get more information on how to enter the competition, the participation requirements, the prizes and the members of the Jury to the official website.
The deadline to submit your photos is 31 August 2009.

NOW! with your Foam Magazine subscription: So Blue So Blue
Thursday, 19 March 2009
The first twenty subscribers who will start their subscription with Foam Magazine #18 'Displaced' will receive the publication of Ad van Denderen So Blue So Blue. Go to our shop and enclose the promotion code: SOBLU in the promotion code box when finalising your order.
The starting point of So Blue So Blue was in 2001 when Van Denderen photographed a group of a hundred illegal immigrants, landing on a beach in the south of Spain in rubber boats. Soaked to the skin, they ran off in the early morning light. Three hours later tourists appeared on the same beach, spreading out their towels to enjoy another sunny day. Realising that the region is riven with these inconsistencies, he has spent the past 5 years photographing in every country that borders the Mediterranean Sea. So Blue, So Blue is his personal attempt to make sense of the immense economic, political, socio-religious and ecological changes taking place around the open space that Europe, Asia and Africa have contested and shared for centuries. For more information go to www.steidlville.com

NY REPORT
Thursday, 05 June 2008
Foam Magazine was present at the New York Photo Festival, wich took place from 14-18 May in Dumbo, Brooklyn, NY. We presented a selection of spreads from #14 / 'Meanwhile' on a very large scale, wich worked out very well in the exhibition space and attracted the attention of the visitors. It was another great opportunity to meet enthusiastic Foam Magazine readers, photography lovers and practitioners, who all made us blush with their generous compliments to our magazine! The mini magazines we had made for people to take along were so popular we ran out quickly.
Our presence at the festival has been made possible thanks to the support of the Mondriaan Foundation, the city of Amsterdam and the Netherlands Consulate General in New York.

COMING UP: 'CONSTRUCT', THE NEW SUMMER ISSUE
Thursday, 29 May 2008
The next edition of Foam Magazine will be published at the end of June. The theme of Foam Magazine #15 is 'Construct' and features six portfolios with work that shows an alternate reality that has been constructed by the artists. In these constructed images there is a tension between fantasy and reality for the viewer. He or she is seduced into an active kind of viewing. The respresentation is first deconstructed in order that it can be mentally reconstructed once again, following the example of the original maker. It is here that the core of the artist's presence lies and the confrontation with the work becomes above all a meeting with its maker.
'Construct' features the work of Melanie Bonajo, Thomas Demand, Moira Ricci, Toshiko Okanoue, Martina Sauter and Myoung Ho Lee.
DEADLINE FOR 'TALENT' SUBMISSIONS
Wednesday, 21 May 2008

If you missed out this time, keep reading Foam Magazine and don't miss the inspirational work in the upcoming issues, #15 / 'Construct' (due June 2008) and #16 / 'Talent' (due September 2008).
